Morphology and Natural Location:
Pom-Pom Xenia, like many others in the genus, exhibit a rapid pulsing behavior in which they contract and relax their polyp tentacles, which many biologists believe is related to the coral's respiration. These polyp tentacles grow out of a stalk which attaches to substrate and reproduces asexually through colonial fission. Xenia umbellata is found in oceans from the East African coast to the Red Sea to the Central Pacific Ocean in clear, shallow water with moderate to fast current.

Captive Care Information:
Our Pink Pom-Pom Xenia brood stock is second generation aquacultured. It will grow under a wide variety of conditions from slow to fast current under lighting ranging from power compacts to metal halides. Excellent water quality should be maintained: 76-80 degrees Fahrenheit, 1.023-1.026 specific gravity, 8-12 dKH, 8.1-8.4 pH, 350-450 ppm calcium, and 1200-1500 ppm magnesium. Generally more intense lighting and moderate to fast current will optimize both the coloration and growth rate of Pom-Pom Xenia. It is an excellent coral for everyone from beginners to advanced hobbyists that will add both movement and color to an aquarium.
